The TDS Samurai

This is the most recent and up to date picture of my 1988 Suzuki Samurai.

Please note AAPA stands for Asian Auto Parts of AZ, DGI stands for Damn Good Idea and ZOR stands for Zuks Off Road. All three AAPA, DGI and ZOR are reputable vendors. Without Dave’s help at AAPA my samurai would continue to look like it did in November of 2007 when I first got it, but it would not be running now, without Enno and Daryl’s Tail Gator my junk would be all over the Samurai, and without Myron’s quality diff guards I’d have boulders sticking out of my axle.

Below is a current list of modification I have done to my Samurai, wherever you see blue text ,click on it to view a picture or to follow a link.

Past modifications:

  • Weber – Unless you’re a trained carburetor specialist and have been tuning carburetors for the last 20 years of your professional life, I would stay away from the Weber carb on a Samurai. I had a Weber carb on my Samurai for a year and a half until it burned up my engine. I went to EFI when Dave at AAPA built my 1.6l, I would encourage anyone who thinks about upgrading to an aftermarket carb to reconsider and get fuel injection, it costs a little more, but it’s worth every penny. I promise you, you will not regret it.
  • ZOR Front Bumper - I loved the bumper, but it did not work with my Warn 9000XDi winch, it sat slightly off center.
  • Mike Francis T-Case Bucket
  • ZOR Rob Rack - I had Myron’s Rob Rack sitting in the intended spot for the longest time, but I moved it in the back of Samurai.
  • Chevy Camaro Alternator – Personally I think it was overkill for what I needed, at night I could see all my tech cluster lights glowing when I would go over 4k RPM.
  • Rear Driveshaft Disconnect – I still have it laying around, but it’s no longer on my samurai, with the short wheel base, I was getting funky vibrations with the rear drive shaft disconnect on, along with Myron’s cradle it took care of all the vibrations.
  • Trail Gear Springs - I had these springs on my sprung under samurai for 2 years, it was a fairly rough ride and the flex was minimal.
  • 3″ Dropped Pitman Arm
  • Calmini Full Exhaust – It worked and looked great, I ended up bending the tip and puncturing a hole in the muffler. Also, the only complaint that I have is that I could never get it to fully seal with the provided clamps.
